The primary aim of Pets2Vets is to provide professional and qualified first response medical aid to all animals, both domestic and wild. Many animals die, or suffer unnecessarily because of a delay in getting them to the Vets due to traffic, lack of transport and insufficient medical knowledge. If we cannot get to you for any reason, and your call is an emergency, we will try to find someone who can. At present Pets2Vets is run by two full-time staff members, both of whom are veterinary nurses, and two part-time nurses. All staff attend workshops and/or work a nursing shift at local veterinary clinics, to keep their skills fresh and current. As we work 24/7 we rely on volunteering Vets and nurses to help us keep Pets2Vets going. We are also very grateful for the kindness of the public for their donations of money, towels and bedding, all of which is invaluable to the service. We have two animal ambulances fully fitted with everything you would expect an NHS ambulance to carry. 2008 promises to be a busy year for us: new ambulances, new ideas, increase in public awareness of our services, and new veterinary clinics opening around the county. At Pets2Vets we pride ourselves on having the best team available to care for all animals. We deliver the same level of care that we would in a veterinary clinic environment, whether a vehicle struck badger or a collapsed German Shepherd; all patients receive 100% professional and loving nursing. With our wealth of experience, we know we are top notch!
Helen Beswick is the owner and founder of Pets2Vets and K9 Playtime. She has many years experience as a Veterinary Nurse, working around the world. New Zealand trained and qualified she moved back to the UK in 2000 after 14 years in New Zealand, to further her clinical nursing skills. After several years of locum work in the London area Helen settled in the South East with her fiancé Rob, their cat Marmite, and dog, Pip. After a year at an orthopaedic referral center she retired from full time nursing to start K9 Playtime, a dog service providing walking, boarding, training, puppy visits etc. A year later and Pets2Vets was purchased and re-established! Whilst keeping her hand in by doing monthly A&E nursing shifts in London, Helen's skills and experience are wholeheartedly put into her businesses. Helen is equally happy at the wheel of the ambulance, or out walking the K9 Playtime dogs (not so thrilled with the paperwork side of business ownership though!).
As Assistant Manager of both businesses Sue White is kept busy, and no two days are ever the same. Once a veterinary theatre nurse for a busy mixed animal practice in Reigate, Sue now drives clients pets to the vets, groomers or kennels/cattery, gets called out at 2am for a vehicle struck deer and can be up at 6am to tend to a diabetic cat 6 miles away! Sue's skills are used in a daily hands on approach, and with the launch of Pets2Vets she is often found in her wellies walking dogs for K9 Playtime, with her stethoscope at the ready in her pocket!
Donna Jude is a veterinary nurse who currently works part time for Pets2Vets as she finishes her nursing studies at the local college. With a natural rapport for animals, the patience of a saint, and bucket loads of love for the animals in her charge Donna is a welcome sight for any poorly animal. Working around her studies and shifts at a Veterinary Orthopaedic Centre, Donna helps Pets2Vets mostly at weekends and covers night shifts, as well walking some of the K9 Playtime dogs.
